The nuclear debate

One of the earlier posts, the Nuclear Sham, caught my eye. And now, I provide my view on the nuclear debate. Is nuclear power the much awaited solution to the energy crisis? Let us try and analyse the pros and cons of going nuclear. After all, we are in the "post- Nuclear Age", aren't we? Discussions welcome. Going 'for' the motion: For starters we have to point out that scientists are not sure exactly what is causing global warming. While most people would say that the so‐called greenhouse gases are responsible, the truth is that we do not know what exactly the reason is. The production of these kind of gases incremented exponentially in the last decades, but we are observing just a limited modification in temperature; while we know in the ages past there was far greater temperature oscillation‐not caused by greenhouses gases. Of course, this does not mean we should not care about emissions of dangerous gases or other chemical compounds. Nuclear power may...

The Count of Monte Cristo

Genre: Adventure Age Factor: 16 and above This one is considered to be a classic by Alexandre Dumas. I tried some books which are considered to be classics and never liked anyone. Some was just horrible to complete or too boring. But, I should say this one is really interesting. Good story and narration. You won't regret after reading it. Although lot of french names and characters appears all of a sudden, the way the story goes is interesting. After reading it, you'll be in a confusion whether to go with the main character or not!!

The Three Mistakes Of My life

Akhilesh Last Tuesday Loaned me his copy of the latest novel by Chetan Bhagat, The 3 mistakes of my life.Wednesday Afternoon I started reading it and it was over by my evening walk time. Genre - Fiction Age Factor - 16 and above. The book - Much Much better then his last book, the call centre one.The story evolves around the guy Govind Patel and his two friends ish and omi and a business plan mooted by Govind to accommodate his and his friend's future. The book has been written for the mass audience, so ofcourse the story, the pricing all go tandem with it.Not a very high class or polished product but an ok, timepass read. Chetan Bhagat deserves appreciation for touching on sensitive issues like Ayodhya, earthquake, The 2002 riots but I think the liberal use of the word fuck could have been avoided. Also I failed to understand the point that in 2000 when cellphone had just begun to gain popularity in the common homes of people, a girl from a financially and socially conse...

Culture & Traditions - our heritage

"We are not responsible for our heritage, but responsible for our actions and what we beget into this world" How often do we come across people raising hue and cry over "Culture" related issues ? Moral policing is another result of it and somehow i have never been able to figure out how correct the moral police itself is morally. If you come from a conservative family, talking at night over the phone with a person of the opposite gender is a moral issue, and often you are considered to be uncultured and a source of shame to the family name,Jeezus ! Anyways I am not here to talk about, whether a particular society's rules are rational or not, whether we should have the flexibility to make certain sacrifices for the sake of our elders or not, whether we should let other cultures dilute our culture or not, rather,I am here to talk about what really is culture, and as i see it why does one have to bother if someone else follows or upholds my/his culture or not.I should...

Corruption and me the future indian

"Be careful ". "Ok mom, I will be" and i raced off on my bike to meet a couple of friends on necklace road in Hyderabad. In my hurry, or rather carelessness I had forgotten to put on my helmet and as fate would have it, I was apprehended by the traffic police guys and pulled over to the side of the road. The scene described in these few lines is not uncommon, infact i feel most of the riders reading this article would have been in the above situation, and i am very confident that most of them would have done what I did. Guesses??? Yes! you are right. "Kya sahib, chod do na sahib chaalan bahut zyaada hai sahib"."To? Galti to aapka hai na, aap helmet nahin daale, ab aap hi bolo hum kya karein?".After that i don a very innocent look on my face and hint towards a possibility of an "outside settlement"."Theek hai side mein aao aap", I take out a fifty and he says-"ye to kam hai, aapke paas Dl bhi nahin hai challan total 500 hot...
