GRE- gateway to higher studies in US

Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test to evaluate verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and critical thinking and analytical writing skills of students for admission into United States graduate schools. This test is conducted by Educational Testing Service (ETS). It is an online examination conducted at different centres across the globe. Applicants can also opt for paper-based entrance test. GRE score has different level of significance for different US universities. Some treat it as one of the important admission factors while for some universities the score is a mere formality. Except the analytical writing section, rest three sections of GRE are multiple-choice ones. Out of the four sections there is one experimental section and has the least say in one’s GRE score. However, which section will come under the experimental category is a highly confidential one and test takers have no idea regarding it. Time allowed taking GRE test is 4 hours. In the analytic...

Media’s role during troubling times

Hi All, Love them or hate them, you just can’t ignore them goes an adage. This couldn’t apply more to the media than anything else today. Print, electronic or any other form of media pervades every aspect of our life; informing us and determining, to a reasonable extent, the formation of views and our response to developing situations. The ongoing Swine Flu Pandemic has highlighted the media’s role yet again in informing, educating, spreading information and awareness among the masses. In fact, I reckon, without the proactive media we have today in this country, the flu could have posed a much bigger threat than it currently does. Having said this, there are proponents of the argument that media is primarily doing this for the sake of TRPs. Undoubtedly there is great public interest surrounding this flu and media outlets just want to cash in on this frenzy. They point out that we experience greater numbers of mortality just due to preventable diseases like malaria etc. So...

SOME BOOK-ED BLOGS!

The blog Nose In A Book , created on 20 th July 06 is Kirsten’s personal blog, the author being an exceptionally active reader. Though the blog had been inactive since a long time, the good news is that it has been recently resurrected! In any case, a good lot of content is already present, and the reader comes across various books, reading competitions, libraries and even book stores as they appear in the author’s life. Overall presentation is nice and coverage is gigantic, touching upon a vast variety of genres. Book names take one directly to amazon.com, so prices and all can be conveniently referred. Navigation is a bit difficult with linking being absent between two subsequent posts, and one has to move using the archive’s monthly links. But overall this is a nice sweet blog, particularly for the extra Voracious lot!

The Blog Insomniac Observatory

The Blog Insomniac Observatory by Rakesh Sukumar who started his blogging on 19 th December 2007 revolves more around some personal experiences which can be termed as Observation rather then mixing it with the word Insomniac. Though, the Blog name is very impressive. And can attract readers if used sensibly but somewhere it misses that grip of attention and lacks that touch of insomniac. The template of the Blog is as simple as it can be in Black color background and white and green color text. The blog is well maintained and holds every label clearly which makes easy for readers. The blog carry good quality of work considerably. Some are condensed written posts and some are detailed versions. Posts like Fact and Fiction grabbed my mind more. I found them very interesting. The blogger has a very subtle style of expression. But there is a loophole which showcases the negative side of the blog too. There are only 36 posts till now, 33 posts in 2007, 2 Posts in 2008 and 1 post in 20...

Chamber Maid’s Trolley

The housemaid’s trolley is a large fitted conveyance which is used for holding all items required for guest room cleaning. It has dirty linen bag, a garbage bag, racks for linen, and shelves for keeping guest supplies. The cleaning supplies are kept in a separate container called a caddy. This prevents other items in the trolley from getting wet and dirty. It is convenient to carry the caddy into guest bathroom when cleaning it. As a rule, the chamber maid’s trolley should be parked in front of guestroom with the door ajar when doing cleaning. Otherwise, trolley can be parked against the wall at a side of the corridor without blocking the way to the guestroom. However room attendant, must always have a clear view of the trolley to avoid any pilferage (minor theft of items in the trolley). Best Regards
