To whomsoever it concerns [Nidhi Thingi] - 2

Before starting off, My advance apologies to all the Nidhi's friends about whom i am going to mention just now.ALso my apologies to Miss Kriti, for after she labelled my friends immature asked me to not to drag her into this.I am sorry kriti, i dont like to do this, but i have to say some thing, and as watching your friend's blog i think am already getting late. Apologies to anyone who find my words underneath as unpleasant.I shouldn't be writing about you people but behind every fire are some elements who are fanning it to grow larger and bigger. _______________________________________________________ * I have better ways to blow anyone's character, revealing letters and commenting on them isn't my idea of defaming anyone. For me it should be something sinister something very very bad. Also i never use my blog for defaming someone.I have a limited number of readership here. Most of them females.I know very few people will understand ethics, but since many of these g

The Bookizie Tag

I had planned to do this tag a long time ago, but somehow it just got missed. After reading Tshhar's last post, I finally set my banana fingers to work.... My somewhat rusted memory informs me that I'd read some of these books very long ago. The titles are just vaguely familiar. And in some cases, like the Agatha Christie ones, I usually just read the pages at the beginning and the end. So that qualifies as scanning . NOT reading. One more thing. I dunno if I'm allowed to do this, but I've added one more rule to this tag. I apologize for the adulteration..... RULES: * Bold the titles you've read * Italicize the ones you want to read *Leave blank the ones that you aren't interested in. * Add any 5 titles of your choice in this list, before you pass on the tag. New Rule : Rate the books you have read from '*' (1) to '* * * * *' (5). Agatha Christie - Sad Cypress * * * * Ayn rand - The fountainhead Ayn rand - Atlas shrugged Anurag Mathur - The inscr

SHopping books in delhi-1

Once, few years ago,i was going to Noida, with my cousin, my sis and mom. As it happens very regularly In Delhi, you meet heavy traffic en route and have to navigate through many red lights. The special thing i saw this time, was that the goodies sold by poor people had changed in past years. Now there were little kids, selling pirated books and not same beggars or women selling some weird car accessories or food items. I remember in the midst of hot, long drive i found this very intriguing. here were some illiterate kids selling John Grisham, archers, dan brown's books.Even Shoba De. They knew each title and author well. The quoted high prices signaling that they were ready for bargaining. And if you don't find the book of your choice, pat comes the reply..."Woh doosre ladke ke paas hai, abhi laata hun" [Its with the other guy,i will just get it.] As someone who spreads awareness about books, who motivates people to read good books, wants to create a library one day

My small little shopping trip

A friend of mine called me up in the evening and informed that there were some good offers on a bookstore in Sarabha nagar, near my House.Apparently the shop owner was selling some books 25 rupees per piece. At around 8 o' clock finishing my other work,i set off to the bookstore, to find sackfuls of second hand books lying in one corner of the bookstore, starting price was 25 rupees as my friend had said. But there were mostly romance and classics.ALso for teenagers there was the sweet valley twin series. I picked up 6 books, out of which finally i dropped two crime related ones and bought these 4: Just see because i dont know anything about them [Thats the way i shop for books.Pure instinct.] 1)Pride of place - Nicola Thorne 2) A slave to kiss - Anastasia Dubois 3)Crosswinds - Shirley S. Rohde 4) Kim - Rudyard Kipling The funniest part was,mom opened up my shopping bag,she rarely does that, but mom dad were sitting, talking and she opened up. The book on the top was A slave to kiss [D

Shopping Books In New Delhi

As a little kid, almost all my shopping was done from Delhi, and not in Ludhiana.Clothes, games, toys and books, all were purchased from those shops in the central and southern belt of Delhi. Here are some vague memories of the childhood long gone by and then, coming out of teenage,i once again scoured the streets of the Capital for books not having the faintest idea I would be recalling all of it one day. ______ Our House in Delhi was located in Greater Kailash Area. SO the G.k. market, was a place we would get most of our storybooks from.Mom dad bought from there, story books, loads of creativity books, origami kinds, since my sister is a couple of years elder to me,she used to get most of those books, to be passed on to me one day. One of the series of books, i recall we used to be very excited was the bournvita quiz contest books. In those days Bournvita quiz contest was a very popular quiz show, and those people used to bring out books i cant recall but maybe there were 10 of the

Books are friends

Many people don't realize the importance of the books. They think that reading extra books is the wastage of time but they don't know that what is value of books in our life even if they are not related to us. I myself thought the same thing but now that i have developed the habit of reading books i have felt a big change in the style of my writing. I don't need the thesaurus any more because i now know how to use one word in a place of other word. If you find difficult find the books of your age then visit Shelfari and all your problems will be solved. Happy reading:D

Practical vastushastra

Thursday, May 08, 2008 12:00 AM [Transplanted from my musings] Vastu in sanskrit means dwelling. In modern times, i see a lot of unhappiness around us. I learned vastu from various sources, newspapers, magazines, books, even talked to experts. I feel, following the principals of vastu shastra one can infuse positive energy in his/her house and bring about a wave of happiness in life. Today i am going to tell you something about Practical vastu shastra a book written by Acharya Satyanand and published by Diamond pocket books. Age criteria This book is suitable for all age groups, 13 years and above. Especially for the middle aged people, who are interested in building up their homes. Review In this very brief book, about 174 pages, Satyanand jie has precisely described various aspects of vastu. There isn't over explanation of anything. The language is very simple, and easy to understand. Not at all technical, if you feel uncomfortable with that. Apparently this book was published f

Shamrock Nurse [M&B]

I have been pending to write about this wonderful book, from a long time now.Today it seems i am going to finish off this mission. The book i am talking about is Shamrock nurse, written by Elspeth O' Brein for the Doctor Nurse Romance Series of Mills and boons . I bought this book alongwith Spanish Disco , on June 1st this year. Genre - Romance Fiction Age Factor - Suitable for readers above the age of 16 The book When you see on the cover that this book is a part of the doctor nurse romance, you get the idea of what kind of story it is.This nurse Nuala has developed a soft spot for a surgeon who is loosing his eyesight and she has been deputed to look after her.The 189 page book is a nice soft light read.A good one to wind up and relax on the weekend after an exhaustive week. Its going to be very difficult to find a copy of this book [I have got the 1983 first issue of this book] But if you can lay your hands on it,do read it. Gifting Ideas Again, very difficult to lo

Its all about choice-Do read

Two Choices : What would you do?....you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same choice? At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning-disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question: 'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?' The audience was stilled by the query. The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, physically and mentally handicapped comes into the world, an opportunity to realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other people treat that child.' Minette Walters - The Chameleon's Shadow

A true-to-the-story psychological thriller, this book can disturb perhaps the most impassioned of the hearts. The book is interspersed with realistic reports and highly professional psychological and law related articles, all intertwined with the story. The story follows Charles Acland, an ex-military Lieutenant who suffers from serious head injuries, causing an unfriendly change of attitude, a huge loss of memory and permanent facial disfigurement. Unable to deal with his past, and discontent with his present, his ego builds - causing him to turn sternly contemptuous, and if not, crudely gruff. Caught in the wrong places at the wrong time, Acland finds himself as a suspect for the most happening murder, the means of which are only endured by an iron stomach. Suddenly despising women, he even rejects his own mother at times and aims rude remarks at the female nurses. But, in the end, he takes a woman's help, with nothing but pure respect. A vividly described book, with ins

Spanish Disco

No,this isn't any disco tutorial book, but Erica Orloff' s Debut Novel.I got it from the second hand market on June 1 this year, having no idea about the author or the book. Age Factor - Suitable for people of all ages above 16 years. Genre - fiction The book This 250 page book is about an editor Cassie Hayes, her relationships and her work. What i liked the most about the book was the long distance relationship between Cassie and Micheal,One living in Florida, the other in London. They have never met each other and only seen each other's photographs. Nowadays we all have a little bit of virtual lives where we see such things happening.SO this was a nice read for me. Not a very superb book, but yes a good one.If you are fond of reading light stories, its a good pick. Gifting ideas I doubt that you will find this book at the nearest bookstore, but if you find one,its a good gift, for your gal friends.I am not very sure, whether your male friends will love it.

The Fountainhead

Saturday, May 10, 2008 12:00 AM [Transplanted from my musings] I was jumping up and down with joy. Couldn't believe my luck. Mom had informed me that she will buy me a book, because i passed my pre boards well. And that book would be Ayn Rand's The fountainhead or Atlas shrugged. My first reaction, utter surprise, mom...going to buy me a book, a book she has recommended...*Scratching my head* naa,,, something is wrong here. My second reaction, jumping up and down on the bed...Mom going to pay for this book, and she herself asked me to buy this...Whoa!!!!!!! finally the third reaction, What is Ayn Rand? who is fountainhead? isn't it a strange name? Sounds philosophical, na, i read only crime [at that time, i preferred crime and mystery] and what the hell is atlas shrugged? Whatever, mom is going to buy me this book,* More jumping and bumping* Age bars This book has some explicit content and the message the author is trying to convey in this book, i would

A suggestion

hey i feel that the name 'reader's paradise' is too serious.........nd the word paradise kind of irks me.........so how bout a name change????????.........( hopefully not something beginning with 'k'......lame joke i know)......something like 'novel(ty) unlimited.co.inc.'........or if its too long then we can remove the 'co.inc'........there are also others like 'the idlers paradise', 'penning the penned book' and of course any name that you may come up with......please comment.

RED ALERT!!!!!!!!

I loved the Kite Runner and so i bought his second book- A Thousand Splendid Suns. I did not like it much. I was not able to finish it. I guess part of the fault lies with me. I could not take in the sordid details. My problem is that i like a little splash of happiness here and there. I am unable to swallow stark sadness. So i am writing here to alert people against this book ( for ppl like me). Of course the book has its moments of truth, when you realize that the author's style still exists in the book. But i can safely say that A Thousand Splendid Suns is simply not as great as The Kite Runner.

P.S. I love you

Holly is this person who loses her husband to cancer........she loved him very much and it looks like she is not gonna be able to cope up with the death.........but then there is a surprise (which i dont want to spoil) .....Holly gradually learns to move on........what i like about this book is how realistically her emotions are portrayed...........its well worded and you really relate to the main character.........i feel that it can be read by both the sexes......guys might think that it's a girly book but still according to me they should give it a try.....i haven't met a guy who has read it yet so i dont know how guys feel bout the book.....girls without a doubt will love this book...... btw the movie P.S. I love you is based on this book...... COST: Rs. 175 PAGES: 503 ( but the handwriting is big.....so it doesn't turn out that long)

Ranjit singh

Monday, May 12, 2008 3:03 PM [Transplanted f rom My Musings ] History classes were always boring, but not because history itself was boring, it was because of all that crap NCERT and CBSE imposed upon us. I was blessed a bit, for i has some good history teachers and a liking for my country's past. But the mugging and cramming was hateful. Today, i will introduce you to one of the most interesting books on Punjab's history, which empowers you with knowledge and not try to educate you like your ncert books. On 30th April, i companied my friend, for book shopping, me the hero, always there for anyone and everyone, helping him out searching his desired books.I saw this one booklet kinda thing, Ranjit Singh it said, published by Rupa, i got interested and probed further. W.G. Osborne was the military secretary to Governor General of India, and this book is his journal, pertaining to his days in Punjab, as a guest of the king. Age factor 13 and above can read this one,
